According to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, when the Litchfield Fire Department arrived at the fire, near 150th Street and 620th Avenue, the swamp was totally engulfed in fire. The blaze also spread into the groves of nearby farm places.

No one was injured as a result of the fire and the cause is unknown, Norlin said.

The fire department battled the blaze for six hours and was assisted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which provided specialized equipment that could drive in the swampy areas.
