Fire destroys Willmar garage; firefighter treated for overexertion
WILLMAR -- One firefighter was treated for overexertion and a garage was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning in Willmar.
The name of the firefighter was not disclosed. The firefighter was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital by Willmar Ambulance and was treated and released.
Willmar Fire Chief Marv Calvin said a passerby saw flames coming from the garage at the home of Luther Septon, 222 15th St. S.W., at about 5 a.m., and called dispatch. Firefighters found flames coming from the side and roof of the garage.
Firefighters contained the fire to the garage, which was destroyed. A shop and a couple of vehicles inside the garage were destroyed and a couple of restored antique vehicles were damaged, said Calvin.
Firefighters were on the scene for about 3½ hours. The Pennock Fire Department was called to provide manpower, said Calvin.
The cause is being investigated but is not considered suspicious, said Calvin.
