BOISE, ID - Firmin, "Firm", or "Butch" Baumgartner, Jr. died on Monday, May 6th at his home in Boise, Idaho. A private memorial service will be held in Boise on Saturday, May 18th.

Firmin George Baumgartner, Jr. was born on June 14th, 1942 in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Firmin and Muriel Baumgartner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia, MN. He grew up on the family farm near Olivia, graduated from St. Aloysius Parochial School, Olivia Public High School and attended St. Thomas University in St. Paul, MN.

Firm was captivated by the culture and climate of the western United States and spent the majority of his life in Colorado, California and Idaho. He was a successful insurance agent with an agency in Grass Valley, CA. In later years he established a financial services agency in Boise, ID.

Firm greatly enjoyed hunting and knew a great deal about varmint and game weapons and how to load cartridges specific to the animal being hunted. He was quite conservative in his politics and strongly believed in being an independent citizen. We will miss his numerous e-mails on those subjects.

Firm is survived by his sisters: Jean Kubesh of Olivia and Susan (and Jim) Groehler of Inver Grove Heights; his brothers: John (and Cathy) of Olivia, and Chuck (and Toni) of Olivia, and his sister-in-law Arlene Baumgartner of Olivia. Firm is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Joe and Mike, his sisters Peg and Mary Catherine; his brothers-in-law Richard Love and Kenneth Kubesh. Blessed be his memory.
