WILLMAR -- Hannah Smith scorched the net for 17 of her 20 points in the first half and Willmar had an easy time defeating a young St. Cloud Tech team 69-43 in Central Lakes Conference girls basketball on Thursday.

Smith sank seven field goals in the first half, three from behind the arc. She added three free throws the second half.

It was her biggest night offensively since Jan. 8 when she also scored 20 in a 74-36 win at St. Cloud Tech.

"We played so well in the first half," said Willmar coach Brad Atchison, referring to a 46-21 bulge at intermission. "Hannah Smith carried us offensively. She had kind of disappeared offensively as of late. It's nice to see her come out and have a game like this."

Willmar worked the high-low post for five baskets by Jena Thompson, who went on to finish with 16 points.

Alex Lippert's scoring wasn't needed. She supplied 13 rebounds, blocked seven Tech shots around six points.

Mariel Aamot scored 13 points, matching her season high for a second time in the last four games.

Tech (6-9, 9-11) is young with only four juniors and seniors and not enough players to field a sophomore or junior varsity team last night.
