Fischer named Willmar’s Distinguished Young Woman for 2015

WILLMAR — A busy senior year in high school awaits Marin Fischer.

She is the 2015 Distinguished Young Woman of Willmar following the annual program Saturday at the Willmar Senior High School.

According to a news release from the organizers of Willmar’s event, Fischer will compete at the state level in the year ahead for the chance to go to Mobile, Alabama, and compete at the national level.

Fischer is the daughter of Steve and Jennifer Fischer, and was sponsored by the Kandiyohi County Area Family YMCA.

Fischer’s talent was a musical performance on the oboe. She also won awards in academics, fitness, interview and self-expression.

Also competing were Kiley Mattson (Troy Dunn Trucking), Hayley Viessman (Asthma & Allergy Specialty Clinic), Lizeth Rios (Culver’s) and Alycia Holwerda (Conway Deuth & Schmiesing).

The  list of awards earned is as follows:

Talent: Kiley Mattson and Hayley Viessman

Academics: Marin Fischer and Alycia Holwerda

Fitness: Marin Fischer and Alycia Holwerda

Interview: Marin Fischer and Alycia Holwerda

Self-Expression: Marin Fischer and Alycia Holwerda

Spirit: Lizeth Rios

Organizers said a total of $1,900 in college scholarship awards was awarded to the Class of 2015.

Distinguished Young Women is formerly known as America’s Junior Miss and is the only scholarship program for young women entering their senior year of high school.
