Fischer unseats Beccue for Kandiyohi County Attorney
WILLMAR -- After 20 years of serving as Kandiyohi County Attorney, Boyd Beccue was soundly defeated in Tuesday's election by political newcomer, Jennifer "Jenna" Fischer.
Fischer received 78 percent of the votes cast.
This was the first time that Beccue, 62, had an opponent since he was first elected in 1990.
Beccue's experience as county attorney was apparently trumped by Fischer's public appeal and message that it was time for a change in the office.
Fischer, 44, who is currently a partner in the Jones and Fischer law firm in Willmar, had worked as a public defender in the past and spent five years working as an assistant Kandiyohi County Attorney in the mid-1990s under Beccue.
She said it has always been her goal to become a prosecutor.
When reached shortly after midnight, Fischer said she was very excited about winning the race and thanked the voters "for giving me the opportunity to serve the county."
