Fishing pros to offer tips at Let's Go Fishing seminar
WILLMAR -- Area anglers will be able to learn the secrets of fishing Minnesota waters from some of the state's best fishing pros, while also helping give area senior citizens an opportunity to enjoy our local lakes.
Professional walleye fisherman Pete Harsh and expert guide Denny Pluimer will be the featured speakers when the Willmar chapter of Let's Go Fishing of Minnesota hosts its first ever "Belgian Waffle Feed and Fishing Seminar.''
The event will be held from 9 a.m-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 at the Willmar Senior Center on North Highway 71, Willmar. Belgian waffle meals will be served continuously.
Harsh, a pro angler from Sauk Centre, will offer a presentation on how to catch walleye from 9:30-11:30 a.m. He is regarded as one of the state's top walleye tournament anglers.
Denny Pluimer will offer a presentation on northern pike and bass fishing from noon-1:30 p.m. Pluimer, of rural Willmar, is a biology instructor at Central Christian High School in Prinsburg. For the past 27 years, he has devoted his summers to guiding anglers on the lakes of Crow Wing and Cass counties.
Both Harsh and Pluimer are much sought-after speakers who can offer practical advice for anglers of all skill levels.
Along with the presentations and meal, the event will feature a silent auction. Among the auction items are guided fishing trips being offered by each of the speakers, as well as local anglers.
The event should be a fun time for people of all ages, and it's for a good cause, according to Roger Benson, president of the local Let's Go Fishing Chapter. The funds raised at the event will be used to provide area senior citizens with outings on local lakes this summer. The chapter must raise all of its own funds to make the outings possible. Benson noted that state grant funds awarded to Let's Go Fishing last year can only be used to help develop new Let's Go Fishing chapters across the state, and do not fund the actual activities of local chapters.
Advance tickets are available at Brad's 71 Bait Shop, Old Home Bakery and the Willmar Senior Center, all of Willmar; and the Lake Region Bank, New London. Tickets are $8 at the door; or $6 for those 65 and older or ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are free.
