Five from west central Minnesota among teacher of year nominees
ST. PAUL — Five teachers in west central Minnesota are among 135 nominated to be named the 2013 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.
A group of semifinalists and then finalists will be named, leading to the announcement of the teacher of the year on May 5.
Area teachers on the list include Pam Diem, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg; James Jackman, Litchfield; Renee Balken, Montevideo; Julie Schroeder, Southwest/West Central Service Cooperative; and Leanne Carmany, Yellow Medicine East.
This year’s program will name the 49th Minnesota Teacher of the Year, celebrating excellence in teaching in Minnesota. Candidates include pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers, from public or private schools.
The program is sponsored by the Education Minnesota educators’ union with support from several other organizations.
