Floyd E. Hess Sept. 26, 1933 - March 4, 2009
LAKE HENRY -- Floyd E. Hess, 75, of Lake Henry died Wednesday at his home after an 11-month battle with cancer.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Lake Henry. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville with parish prayers at 6 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's Men's Society and Lake Henry Lions at 8 p.m. and Lake Henry American Legion ritual at 8:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Lake Henry to Claude and Rose (Lenz) Hess. He was one of the first five to voluntarily enlist in the Army from Kandiyohi County and served from 1953-55.
He married Elaine Abraham on May 3, 1958, in Sauk Rapids. They moved to Minneapolis where he worked for Swift until moving in 1960 to Regal where he worked for Younkin Transfer. In 1968, they moved to Lake Henry where they owned and operated Hess Store and Oil Company. In 2004, he sold his business and continued to work for Paynesville Farmers Union Coop. He was a member of St. Margaret's Parish, Lake Henry Legion, Lake Henry Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's Men's Society and was a past volunteer fireman.
He is survived by his children: Cindy Hess of Lake Henry, Dave (and Barb) Hess of Paynesville, Brenda (and Rick) Terres of Spring Hill and Dale (and Linda) Hess of Payneville; nine grandchildren; siblings: Delores Kampsen of Elrosa, Alyce Younkin of Paynesville, Jeanette Ramler of St. Cloud, Luverne Hess of South Haven, Allan Hess of Cold Spring, Joan Johnson of Pequot Lakes and Dan Hess of St. Anna.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999 and an infant brother.
