Floyd R. Pierce Nov. 11, 1918 - May 26, 2009
WILLMAR -- Floyd Ralph Pierce, 90, of Willmar, formerly of Crookston, died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston with military honors provided by the Crookston Veterans Council. Memorials are preferred to the Rice Memorial Hospital Dialysis Unit in Willmar.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.
He was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Barnesville to Harry and Ethel (Arms) Pierce. The family moved to Crookston in 1930 and he graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1936.
He married Fern Kinshella on May 11, 1941, in Barnesville. They lived in Crookston and he worked for the Great Northern Railroad. He joined the Navy in 1944, and served in the Pacific Theater. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Crookston and the railroad, retiring in 1978. He moved to Willmar in 2004. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Eagles and Masonic Lodge, all in Crookston, and the First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his children: Joan (and Bob) Glaesman of Willmar and Mike (and Jackie) Pierce of Eagan; son-in-law: Neal (and Pat) Stenlund of Goodhue; seven grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; five great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and a brother: Curtis (and Alice) Pierce of Benson.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2003; a daughter: Lynn Stenlund in 1994; one sister; and one brother.
