Flyers soar past Willmar boys basketball

LITTLE FALLS -- Turnovers and a dry spell early in the second half helped Little Falls clear away from Willmar and the Cardinals fell 74-62 to their former Central Lakes Conference rival on Thursday.

The teams were tied at halftime, but Willmar head coach Steve Grove said the Cardinals hit a stretch for about five minutes in which nothing went right and the Flyers took advantage.

"In the second half," Grove said, "we had a spell where we had too many turnovers leading to easy buckets, and on offense we couldn't convert anything over a five-minute span. That spelled our demise."

Austin Rambow and Jimmy Unger led the Cardinals with 10 points apiece, and Dean Stier and Brandon Zuidema each added 9.

Josh Wenzel led the Flyers with 24 points.

After playing St. Cloud Tech in a Central Lakers Conference home game today, the Cardinals are off for a week before ending the regular season on the road against St. Cloud Apollo on March 2
