Football: KMS caps unbeaten regular season with win over USA

MURDOCK -- Mark Skoglund scored twice and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg had two other players score Wednesday as the Fighting Saints tripped up Upsala-Swanville Area 24-12 to end the regular season unbeaten.

KMS (4-0, 8-0) scored the game's first 24 points and limited Upsala-Swanville Area to 156 yards of offense and eight first downs.

The Fighting Saints, ranked sixth in Class A, rushed for 270 yards with Joel Bauman leading the way with 154 yards on 21 carries.

Skoglund scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter, Bauman scampered 34 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, and Skoglund then found the end zone from 11 yards out in the third quarter.

KMS quarterback Kevin Steinhaus capped the scoring with a two-yard keeper in the fourth quarter.

Skoglund also hauled in five catches for 82 yards.

Steinhaus finished 8-for-12 for 112 yards and one interception.

Taylor Freetly had an interception for the Fighting Saints.

Luke Johnson gained 60 yards in 20 carries for Upsala-Swanville.

Shane Weller on an 8-yard pass from Jackson Illies and a six-yard run by Illies accounted for the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa scoring.

Austin Kampsen rushed for 128 yards in 28 attempts against the Howard Lake-Waverly/Winsted defense.

Illies completed 10-of-21 passes for the Jaguars for 118 yards. Kampsen also caught four passes for 69 yards. Dustin Gruber had three receptions for 26 yards.

Jake Young rushed for three of the HLWW touchdowns from 4, 25 and 51 yards. John Young scored the final touchdown on a 50-yard scamper.
