NEW LONDON - New London-Spicer's defense held Sauk Centre to 73 yards of total offense en route to a 49-0 pasting of Sauk Centre in West Central North Conference play Wednesday.

The Wildcats (3-4, 3-5) put up 493 yards, 306 on the ground. Nick Carlson led the way with 132 yards on 18 carries and scored three touchdowns. Austin Hadley went 7-for-7 passing with 187 yards and two touchdowns.

Luke Steinbach was in on nine tackles - eight solos - to lead the defense. Carlson picked off two passes and Ben Sletta had one which he returned for a 72-yard touchdown.

Montevideo 25, Minnewaska Area 24

Montevideo marched 66 yards in a clock-eating drive allowing Zach Bothun to score on a 1-yard dive with 21 seconds left in the fourth quarter. But the Thunder Hawks still trailed 24-23 until sophomore quarterback rolled out and squirmed into the end zone for the two-point conversion.

Bothun carried 40 times for 213 yards and all three Montevideo TDs. James Gallagher's 31-yard field goal was the only scoring in the first quarter as Montevideo took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter. But Jordan Hendricksl would pass 24 yards to Jordon Holte to get the Lakers on the board by halftime.

It was back-and-forth with Brandon Olson's second scoring run of the half putting Minnewaska in front 24-17 with 10:14 left to play..

Montevideo took 9:40 off the clock to get the winning score. Montevideo linebackers Talen Wald and Jordan Baldwin combined for 20 solo tackles.

Montevideo is at Blue Earth on Tuesday Section 3AAA.
