Lothert and her attorney told District Judge Randall Slieter in district court in Olivia earlier today that they wanted a jury trial on the charges she faces.

The defendant and her attorney, Thomas Van Hon, had met privately before the court appearance for a settlement conference with the special prosecutor for the case, Yellow Medicine County Attorney Keith Helgeson. The Renville County attorney's office delegated the case to avoid any possible conflict of interest due to Lothert's employment with the Renville County Human Services office.

Lothert, 59, currently of Hector, faces three felony charges for allegedly taking a total of $20,940 in funds from the Danube Economic Development Agency while she served as its president between Aug. 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2010.

She is charged with one felony count of forging a savings withdrawal slip for $1,000 from the city account on Aug. 26, 2009.
