ST. PAUL -- Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura supports Tuesday’s online protest to end mass surveillance.

“Benjamin Franklin once said those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety,” Ventura said. “I hope to raise awareness of how dangerous the NSA (National Security Agency) has become, and I will be joined online with people around the world who feel the same way.”

Organizers of The Day we Fight Back plan to encourage Americans to contact their federal lawmakers to protest surveillance.

“Together we will push back against powers that seek to observe, collect and analyze our every digital action,” the group's Website declares. “Together, we will make it clear that such behavior is not compatible with democratic governance. Together, if we persist, we will win this fight.”

Ventura has been raising his profile in recent weeks since he began an online show, “Off the Grid” on Ora.TV.
