The Willmar Area Community Foundation received $130,000 in gifts during the first half of the fiscal year ending Dec. 31 and established its first affiliate fund, the New London-Spicer Area Fund. Willmar Area Community Foundation also received a trust gift to the New London-Spicer Area Fund that will bring another $200,000 over the next seven years.

“The Willmar Area Community Foundation really has become a resource for individuals, organizations and businesses interested in making this community even better for generations to come,” said Sara Carlson, executive director of the Willmar Area Community Foundation. “We are thankful for the generosity of this community and that we have the support of such a strong organization as the (Central Minnesota Community Foundation).”

The end of 2013 brought a significant spike in giving by local individuals and organizations. Together with its affiliates, the Central Minnesota Community Foundation received $16.1 million of the $18.2 million gifts in December.

“For nearly three decades, individuals and organizations have looked to the Community Foundation to help them support the causes they care about and to leave a lasting legacy,” said Steve Joul, foundation president. “What was different this year was the sheer number of gifts by both existing and new donors. What’s most exciting is the impact that these dollars will have in our community in the years and even decades to come.”

The Community Foundation established 25 new funds in Willmar, St. Cloud, Alexandria, Brainerd and surrounding areas, during the first half of its fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2013. These new funds represent $9.9 million in gifts.
