Four face charges in fight, kidnapping
Willmar Police say four individuals face charges in connection with a fight and kidnapping late Thursday night near downtown on First Street South.
Police were dispatched at 11:22 p.m. to a parking lot in the 700 block of First Street to investigate a report of a fight involving a handgun and a vehicle leaving the area.
An officer spotted the vehicle and a high-risk traffic stop was performed at First Street and Trott Avenue where a replica firearm was recovered. An additional officer apprehended a suspect who was attempting to leave the fight scene on foot.
Police said the vehicle had been taken from an individual in the parking lot and said he was forced into the passen-ger seat before the vehicle was driven away. A second victim was able to flee the scene, police said.
Police said a 23-year-old male from Willmar is being held in the Kandiyohi County Jail pending charges of second-degree assault, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and motor vehicle theft.
Two other Willmar males, ages 17 and 15, are being held at the Prairie Lakes Detention Center and are facing charges of simple robbery, kidnapping, fifth-degree assault and motor vehicle theft.
Police said a 16-year-old male from Willmar was released to parents pending a charge of fifth-degree assault.
Police said the victims were casual acquaintances to the suspects and this incident is not considered a random event.
