WILLMAR -- Frank Ralph Linhoff, 83, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Willmar, died Sunday.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willmar. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to St. James Catholic School in Oklahoma City.
He was born April 21, 1926, in St. Cloud to Frank and Louise (Just) Linhoff. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1944. He attended the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Naha Air Force Base in Okinawa during World War II.
He married Doris Mae "Sonne" Carlson and started his retail career with the JC Penney in Willmar. As a retail store manager for JC Penney and later with National Bella Hess, they lived in a number of towns in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Texas and, finally, Oklahoma. In the early 1970s, they settled in Oklahoma City and opened Linhoff's Cleaners which they operated retiring in the late 1980s.
He was a member of many organizations including Retail Merchants, Chamber of Commerce, Big Brothers, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club and the American Legion, and was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was pilot, earning his student pilots license in high school and later becoming instrument rated.
He is survived by his wife; children: Tom (and wife Linda Ray) Linhoff of Kansas City, Mo, Merry (and Jay) Guben of Philadelphia and Jane (and Andrew) Putnam of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister: Betty Peterson of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
