WILLMAR -- Members of Sen. Al Franken's staff will meet Wednesday afternoon with local education officials and teachers to discuss education reform.

The listening session will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Little Theater of Kennedy Elementary School.

Staff members will discuss reforms to the No Child Left Behind federal education law and get ideas from those attending about ways to improve schools and education.

Franken serves on the Senate Education Committee, which recently passed a reform of NCLB. That bill will be sent to the full Senate for debate later this year.

The state of Minnesota recently received a waiver from some of the requirements in the law, though schools will continue to be responsible for finding ways for students to excel and for closing the achievement gap.
