RENVILLE -- Fred Howard Olson, 80, of Renville, died Wednesday at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Renville. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Renville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
He was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Sacred Heart Township, Renville County, to Fred I. and Amanda (Heidel) Olson. He grew up on the farm west of Renville and graduated from Renville High School. He served his country in the United States Navy and was stationed in California.
He married Loreen M. Jepson on April 1, 1951, in Renville. He farmed the Olson and Jepson family farms until retiring in 1993.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church and served as church president. He served on several boards including the elevator and co-op boards. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Renville and had his private pilot license.
He is survived by his children: Paul (and Patty) Olson of Hinckley, Julie (and Dwayne) Bonnema of Raymond, and William Olson of Lakeville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Martin (and Phyllis) Olson of Billings, Mont., and Janet Dupree of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother.
