RENVILLE -- Frederick Thomas Kodet, 89, of Renville, died Saturday at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Renville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5 p.m. Arrangements are by Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Renville.
He was born March 6, 1919, in rural Olivia to Joseph and Petrona (Pikal) Kodet. He attended School District 59, rural Olivia, and then worked on the family farm. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942.
He married Anna Houdek on Nov. 5, 1942, in Bechyn. During World War ll he served in the European Theater until 1945. They farmed near Olivia and, in 1947, purchased their farm south of Renville.
He was a member of the Renville American Legion, was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville where he served in many capacities. He also served many years as an election judge and on the township board.
He is survived by his wife; five children: Katie (and Bill) Johnson of Renville, LeRoy (and Susan) Kodet of Willmar, Pamela (and Larry) Krautkremer of Clear Lake, Thomas Kodet of Olivia and Nancy (and Mike) Ridler of Benson; 18 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son: Frederick Kodet Jr.; daughter-in-law: Donna Kodet; son-in-law: Roger Ridler; one great-grandchild; and seven siblings.
