A check of area lakes at noon on Sunday, revealed moderate activity and limited success. At County Park No. 1, Big Lake Kandiyohi, West park manager Bud Groen summed the opener up as "cold and miserable."

"A lot of shivering fisher-people. There's been some fish; the walleyes are running small. A lot of people are already heading for home. There's white caps on the lake."

Todd Anderson, manager at County Park No. 3, Diamond Lake reported: "Poor. Not many boats. When the drizzle turned into rain yesterday, the access completely cleared out. This morning there were just two boats out."

Zach Harlan, whose father owns J's Bait and Sport in Willmar said the opener was "pretty good"

"We had a few walleye come in off Lake Kandiyohi. It's been steady but not real busy."

At Last Chance Bait and Grocery on Norway Lake owner Bob Bentz said "I'd say it's about medium (activity) for an opener. There's quite a few boats out catching little ones and a few good ones. We saw one 30-inch northern come in. It's quite today."

At Mel's Sports in Spicer a worker said the weather was a big factor in the decreased activity. "There weren't many boats at the access on Saturday. The weather held things back. The fish caught seemed to be in the smaller lakes, in the shallows. Green Lake is pretty windy today. But the sun is out so things should pick up soon."
