LaVerne Victoria (Fritzie) Brown was born June 20, 1918 in Faith, South Dakota to Julia (Geesey) and the Reverend Arthur Blauert, who served there as a missionary. The family moved to Olivia when Fritzie was in fifth grade, in 1928, when her father received a call to serve Zion Lutheran Church. In Olivia she met Charles Brown who became her high school sweetheart. They were married on March 16, 1942. Following Charles service in the South Pacific they lived briefly in San Diego, Cocoa Beach, FL, and Austin, MN. After the war they returned to Olivia, where she lived until August 2012 when she relocated to Lake Lillian.
Fritzie loved her family and her church, serving as devoted member, church organist and choir director at Zion Lutheran Church for 35 years. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid and Afternoon Circle, chaired the semi-annual Olivia blood drive for seven years, served as an Aftercare volunteer and member of the Renville County Hospital fundraising committee. She sent many letters on behalf of Amnesty International prisoner of conscience. She loved playing cards and participated in many bridge clubs. Playing the piano at the nursing home gave her great joy, as did her travels with Charles all over the world. Hawaii was a favorite and frequent annual winter vacation destination, and she enjoyed summer days at the family cabin on Lake Kandiyohi.
Fritzie was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Charles, brother Arthur Bud Blauert Jr., and sisters Lyla Ferguson and Irene Schendel. She is survived by her daughter Judy (Steve) Marquardt, her son Chuck (Pat) Brown, and my beautiful family of four grandchildren: Julie (Rod) Teichroew, Sarah (Melinda) Marquardt, Tracy Brown, Kate (Mark) Dusenbury; and her four great-grandchildren: Erin and Charlie Teichroew, Benjamin and Silas Dusenbury.
