"Sauk Rapids is going through some growing pains," said Willmar coach Brad Atchison. "We pressured them early and often and that translated into many fast-break layups."

Hannah Smith ignited Willmar (8-1, 11-3) by netting 18 of her career-high 22 points in the first half. The junior also collected eight rebounds and six steals.

"Hannah had a great first half and got us going," said Atchison.

Willmar held Sauk Rapids, which has 10 underclassmen on its varsity roster, to just 10 field goals. The Cardinals owned a comfortable 38-11 lead at halftime.

Smith was the only player on either team to score in double figures. Kelsey Evans added three 3-pointers and nine points for the Cardinals, who overcame shooting only 35 percent from the field by collecting 20 steals.

The Cardinals are at Rocori on Monday for another Central Lakes Conference game. The game was scheduled for Jan. 15, but inclement weather forced the game to be postponed.
