Gene Sundin Sept. 13, 1942 - June 8, 2009
LAKE LILLIAN -- Gene Daniel Sundin, 66, of Lake Lillian died Monday at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
The service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. Burial with military rites will be in the Community Cemetery at Lake Lillian.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at K-M Funeral Home in Lake Lillian and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Sept. 13, 1942, in Lake Lillian to Gustaf and Myrtle (Bakke) Sundin. He grew up in Lake Lillian where he attended school. He served in the Army for 3½ years in France. He returned to Lake Lillian and worked at the creamery.
He Carol Erickson on Dec. 18, 1963, in Navarre. They lived in the Lake Lillian and Cosmos area. He was involved in his community as a Boy Scout leader, fire chief and commander of the American Legion. They moved to Eveleth in 1978 where he worked for U.S. Steel Mintec for 27 years as a boiler operator. In 2004, they retired to Lake Lillian. He was a member of the Willmar American Legion, United Lutheran Church and the K-M Funeral Home Board.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Nanci (and Keith) Gaul of Eveleth and Danyell Vesel of Virginia; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings: William Sundin of Faribault, John (and Carolyn) Sundin of Willmar, Galen (and Peggy) Sundin of Glencoe, Sally (and Clarence) Brown of Faribault and Nancy (and Dale) Olson of Belgrade.
He was preceded in death by his son: Jay; and two sisters.
