George Kortan Dec. 3, 1917 - July 10, 2009
PAYNESVILLE -- George R. Kortan, 91, of Paynesville, died Friday at home.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre. Memorials are preferred.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service Monday. Arrangements are with Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
He was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Sauk Centre to Charles and Mary (Novak) Kortan.
He married Winnifred Olson on July 2, 1946, in Sauk Centre. She died Feb. 1, 1990. He married Rose M. Eveslage on June 18, 1993, in Paynesville. He worked for Kane Transport in Sauk Centre from 1954 until 1984 when he retired.
He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife; children: Andrea (and Dave) Smilonich of Detroit Lakes, Arletta Kortan of Brainerd, Darrell (and Joyce) Kortan of Brooklyn Park, Anita Sharp of Rochester and Annette (and Gregg) Shane of St. Bonifacius; stepchildren: Tom (and Linda) Eveslage of Paynesville and Cindy (and Tom) Blank of Foley; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister: Helen Norgarden of Sauk Centre; and brother: Richard (and Joan) Kortan of Sauk Centre.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Winnifred; five brothers; and two sisters.
