COSMOS - George O. Kaddatz, age 90 of Cosmos, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 27 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday, March 26, at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.

George Otto Kaddatz was born on February 10, 1923 in Cosmos Township, Meeker County Minnesota, the son of Ferdinand and Laura (Reinke) Kaddatz. He grew up on the family farm south of Cosmos. He attended country school for 8 years and one year at Litchfield H.S. He later attended Ag School. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Hervin on July 22, 1944 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos. George enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in February of 1945. He served on ships in the Pacific, and witnessed the surrender of Japan. He received an Honorable Discharge on July 16, 1946. After the service, George returned to Cosmos and the family farm. George and Dorothy raised nine children. The Kaddatz Farm became a Century Farm in 1998.

George was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookfield Twp., Minnesota. He was currently a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos where he was very active for many years serving as a Treasurer, Deacon and Trustee.

George was active in the community as a Twp. clerk, Boy Scout Scoutmaster, and in the Cosmos American Legion Post #126 where he served on the Honor Guard and as Commander seven times.

He was an active player in town baseball, horseshoe & bowling leagues, and was an avid hunter of deer, pheasants and ducks.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Willmar, children: Don ( Jean) Kaddatz of Mora, Laurel ( Jackie) Kaddatz of Carmel, NY, Coreen ( Steve) Williams of Spicer, Bette Schweer of Clarkfield, Connie Larson of Waseca, Georgine Madden of St. Louis Park, Craig ( Nancy) Kaddatz of Canby, Jay ( Denise) Kaddatz of St. Helena, NE, Patricia ( Scott) Cozad of Elko; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; step brother and sisters: Milo Wehking, Shirley Ann (Wehking) Lund, Loretta (Wehking) Peterson and many other relatives and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents and step mother Mamie (Wehking) Kaddatz; sister, Deloris Hillesheim, brother in infancy, half-sister Gloria in infancy; son-in-law Brian Schweer; grandchildren: Michael Lundin and Cally Jo Larson; step-brother Myron Wehking; and step sister Arlene (Wehking) Kolle; and other loved ones.
