DAWSON -- Gerald Michaelson, 83, of Dawson, died Wednesday at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson. He had suffered from Parkinson's disease.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a closing prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.
He was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Dawson to Louis and Mathilda (Fossum) Michaelson. In 1943, he graduated from Dawson High School. He served in the Navy and then graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1949 with a degree in agriculture.
He married Patricia Thurston on June 18, 1949, in Faribault. He was the county agent in Wright County before moving back to Dawson in 1952 to be a grain and livestock farmer. He started Dawson Ag Service in 1954, and was involved with two partners in fertilizer plants in Appleton and Welcome.
He served as director of the Norwest and Minnwest bank boards, Dawson Mills board, Minnesota Agri-Growth Council, Minnesota Plant Food Association, Dawson Grain, Courage Center, KCGN-FM and Southwest Minnesota Foundation. He had served as president of the American Soybean Association and Grace Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Masons, American Legion, Dawson Chamber and the AGR Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife; children: David (and Kathleen) Michaelson of Chaska, Maren (and Jim) Bakken of Dawson and Kristi Michaelson of Golden Valley; four grandchildren; brother: Everett (and Emma) of Brainerd; and sisters: Helen Ude of Eau Claire, Wis., Carol (and Gordy) Solomonson of Minneapolis and Kay (and John) Olson of Elmo, Mont.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
