Gerda Onstad Dec. 6, 1929 - Sept. 14, 2013
NEW LONDON - Gerda Onstad age 83, of New London died on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Gerda Theodora Onstad was born on December 6, 1929 in Benson the daughter of Ingvald and Ida (Anderson) Olson. She grew up on the family farm and attended Benson High School, graduating in 1946. On May 17, 1947, Gerda was united in marriage to Norman Onstad. In the early years of their marriage they lived in various states as Norman served in the military. They moved to New London in 1966 where they raised their family and Gerda worked at the GlenOaks Care Center, Little Crow Golf Course and Prairie Woods Elementary. Gerda was a active member of Peace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as president of Ladies Aid and volunteered her sewing skills to help with the choir and confirmation gowns. She was also a member of the New London Ladies Auxiliary. She is remembered as very loving wife, mother grandmother and friend whose memory will continue live in the hearts of those she touched.
She is survived by loving husband of 66 years, Norman; eight children, Dean (Sue) Onstad of New London, Billy (Lia) Onstad of Great Falls, MT, Darell (Patsy) Onstad of New London, Darla Larson of Choteau, MT, Brenda Allen of New London, Beth (James) Taylor of New London, Tammy (Melissa) Renee of Star Prairie, WI, Kim (Steve) Brideau of New London; daughter-in-law, Renee Onstad of New London; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; siblings, Roger (Charlotte) Olson, Delores Belland and Judy (Donald) Landmark.
Gerda was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister; son, Randall; son-in-law, William Allen; grandsons, Travis Fellers and Christopher Nelson; and nephew, Michael Belland.
