Gertie Lalim March 8, 1928 - Oct. 13, 2013
CLARA CITY - Gertie Lalim, age 85, of Clara City, died Sunday, October 13, 2013, at her home in Clara City. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Friday, October 18, 2013 at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. www.hafh.org
Gertie (Reiter) Lalim was born on March 8, 1928 in Crate Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, the daughter of Evert and Antje (Van Westen) Reiter. She grew up in the Clara City area where she attended rural school District #57 and graduated from Clara City High School in the class of 1946. She was united in marriage to Bennie Lalim on April 25, 1948, at Wang Lutheran Church in rural Maynard. The couple lived in several areas for Bennies job with Cargill Inc., including: Glueck, MN, Blomkest, MN, Kouts, IN and Waltham, MN. Gertie worked as a postal clerk in Blomkest, MN retiring in 1983. They moved to their cabin on Lake Florida in 1987. Bennie died on November 10, 2000. Gertie moved to Clara City in 2007.
She was baptized in 1928 and confirmed in May of 1948, at Bethany Reformed Church. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake where she was active in Bible study, Ladies Aid and served on Altar Guild. She was also active with the Maynard Legion Auxiliary and a homemakers group on Lake Florida.
Gertie was very resourceful and enjoyed keeping busy whether baking, crocheting, working on a project, or helping others. She traveled throughout the U.S. and numerous countries including her last trip to China in 2006. She cherished the time she could spend with her family.
Gertie is survived by her children: Dorene (and LeRoy) Pohl of Elk River, Donald (and Cheri) Lalim of Watertown, SD, and Deborah Lalim of Warroad; two foreign exchange student daughters: Marie Grzesik of France and Pernille "Penny" Lund of Denmark; five grandsons: Kyle (and Beth), Timothy (and Marcie) and Adam (and Lisa) Lalim, Matthew Pohl and Michael (and Bobbi) Pohl and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Etta Dieken and Sylvia Hebrink both of Clara City and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
