Gertrude Johnson Feb. 3, 1913 - Nov. 21, 2008
DARWIN -- Gertrude Marie Johnson, 95, of Darwin and formerly of Litchfield, died Nov. 21 at Lakeview Ranch near Darwin.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ness Lutheran Church southwest of Litchfield.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Sunset Funeral Home of Echo is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Feb. 3, 1913, in Greenleaf to Henry Nicholai and Alma Christine (Arneson) Evenson. She moved with her family to Litchfield in 1916, then to Grove City in 1918, Cromwell in 1921 and returned to Litchfield in 1926. She attended elementary school in Grove City, Cromwell and Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1930.
On June 14, 1936, she married Miles Clayton "Jinx" Johnson near Litchfield. They lived in Litchfield until moving to Lake Stella near Darwin in 1965. She worked at the Litchfield Public Library for many years until retiring in 1969. They spent many winters in Mission, Texas. Jinx died Feb. 25, 1990, and in 1991 Gertrude returned to Litchfield to live in Longfellow Apartments and then in Gloria Dei for a number of years until entering Lakeview Ranch in 2005.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield where she had belonged to the Ladies Aid.
She is survived by her three sons: Garner (and Judith) Johnson of Ponca City, Okla., Daniel (and ElLorraine) Johnson of Lakeland, Fla., and James (and Judith) Johnson of Redwood Falls; son-in-law: James Strawn of Lakeland, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother; one sister; and one stepsister. Her daughter, Blythe Strawn, followed her in death on March 19 after a battle with cancer.
