PRINSBURG -- Gertrude Mersbergen, 93, of Clara City, formerly of Prinsburg, died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Burial will be in Holland Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Holland Township, near Prinsburg, to William and Hattie (Niewenhuis) Roelofs. She attended Prinsburg Christian School.
She married John Mersbergen on June 30, 1937. They lived in Hospers, Iowa, where they operated a filling station for two years. They then returned to Prinsburg and ran a feed mill for six years and farmed. In 1951, they moved to a farm five miles north of Prinsburg where they farmed until 1973 when they retired and moved into Prinsburg. They wintered in Mesa, Ariz., for 20 years. They moved to West View Village in Willmar in 2002. She moved to the Clara City Care Center in August. She worked at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar for 25 years. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and was active with the ladies aid and mission club.
She is survived by her children: Delroy (and Hermine) Mersbergen of Alamo, Texas, and Verna May of Plymouth; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; two brothers and two sisters.
