Gewain H. Hanson Nov. 9, 1923 - April 13, 2009
WILLMAR -- Gewain Harry Hanson, 85, of Willmar died Monday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Willmar to Ingvald and Sadie (Gedosch) Hanson. He attended school in Willmar. He began working for the Great Northern Railroad at a young age. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 where he served as a gunner during World War II for three years, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He returned to Willmar and continued to work at the railroad and later began his own business, Willmar Welding and Boiler Repair.
He married Virginia Hawkinson on June 12, 1947, in Willmar. He worked in his business for more than 55 years.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 167, VFW Post 1639 and a past member of the National Board of Hobby Steam Engines.
He is survived by his wife; daughter: Donna (and Tim) Weatherbee of Willmar; one grandaughter one great-grandson; and a sister: Elaine (and Paul) DeCathelineau of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by a sister, an infant sister and infant brother.
