Girls Basketball: ACGC widens lead in WC South to three

GROVE CITY -- Benson had a chance to move within a game of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in the West Central South Conference race, but the Braves were unable to cool off the Falcons and fell 49-42 on Friday.

ACGC (10-0, 12-3) now leads the circuit by three games over Benson (7-3, 12-4) and Morris/Chokio-Alberta.

ACGC has now won six straight games.

ACGC beat Benson 50-45 on Dec. 8 at Benson in the first meeting of the season.

The Falcons built a 44-35 advantage with 2:45 left before Benson went on a 7-0 run to make it 44-42 with 50 seconds to go.

ACGC then made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch.

Lauren Kinzler and Katie Knisley had 14 points apiece for ACGC. Miranda Hopp added 10 points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Taylor Semler paced Benson with 18 points, all on three-pointers. Abby Fragodt and Kayla Hampton had seven points and seven rebounds each.

Emily Baker had 14 points and eight rebounds, followed by Angie Scheffler with 10 points and nine rebounds to lead the Sting. Aimee Johnson chipped in 11 points.

Jordan Spaulding's 13 points paced the Bulldogs. Andrea Schlangen added seven points, five rebounds and five steals.

Micaela Erickson led the way for the Eagles with 20 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Mackenzie Clark sank four 3-pointers and scored 13 points.

Molly Herdina made all three of BOLD's three-pointers and led the Warriors with 15 points.
