Girls Basketball: Benson rallies past LQPV

MADISON -- Benson overcame a six-point halftime deficit to beat Lac qui Parle Valley 68-59 in a West Central South Conference girls basketball game Saturday.

The Braves (11-4, 16-7) started the game with a 14-4 run, but the Eagles (10-5, 12-10) turned it around with a 16-point swing by halftime.

In the second half, Benson's last 11 points were from the free-throw line, despite making only one from the charity stripe in the first half.

Emily Auch scored 19 points, Emma Peterson had 15 and Beth Larson 13 for Benson. Larson also had five assists.

Jen Kack netted 17 points, and Kacey Struxness and Jordan Halvorson followed with 10 apiece for LQPV. Struxness set a school record with 12 assists in the game, and tied a school mark with 132 career assists. Halvorson and Kiona DuFrane recorded eight rebounds each.

Raeann Sorenson and Shyan Kuefler had 14 points each, while Julie Hieserich had 13 and Ashley Kirkof 11.
