Girls basketball: Cards pick up win in regular-season finale

WILLMAR  — The Willmar Cardinals finished up the regular season with a 65-50 win on their home court over Rocori on Friday.

They finish 9-7 in Central Lakes Conference play and 13-13 overall.

“What a way to end our regular season at home,” Willmar head coach Dustin Carlson said. “The girls played a nice game and an even better second half.”

Nine different players scored for the Cardinals, with Courtney Magnuson the high scorer with 17 points.

Magnuson also picked up 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Jordan Martins, Leah Ruter, Sami Doering and Kaitlynn Kienholz contributed 7 points each, and Martins added 4 assists and 2 steals.

The No. 6-seed Cardinals now look ahead to the Section 2AAA playoffs, where they will play 7 p.m. Tuesday at No. 3-seed Worthington.

“Now we start the real season,” Carlson said. “We are focusing all our effort on Worthington.”
