Girls basketball: Cards skin Spuds

WILLMAR — The Willmar girls basketball team’s Anne Dunham, Courtney Magnuson and Heather Horning combined to score 52 points and the Cardinals defeated Moorhead 75-64 on Saturday at Willmar High School.

The game was the first of a Willmar-Moorhead girls and boys doubleheader.

Dunham finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds, both team highs, and Magnuson had 18 points and 10 boards. Horning scored 10 points and added 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 of Willmar’s 7 blocked shots.

The Cardinals shot a solid 48 percent from the floor and doubled-up the Spuds on the boards with a 52-26 rebounding advantage.

Kassy Linbo and Kalley Fosso both scored 5 points and Linbo led the Cardinals with 5 assists.

The Spuds (6-14) were led by Hailey Wixo with 22 points.

The Cardinals play next at Central Lakes Conference rival Alexandria on Tuesday.
