OLIVIA -- Two CMCS free throws ended a marathon season-opener that lasted four overtimes, 78-77, over BOLD Thursday.

CMCS led after the first half, 31-25, then BOLD evened it up at the end of regulation, 52-52. The first three overtimes ended with scores of 59, 64 and 70.

The teams combined for 99 free throws, with the Bluejays making 32 of 47 and BOLD 22 of 52.

Tara Frikke scored 16 points, followed by Kari Mulder 13 and Jennifer Blom with 11 for CMCS.

Megan Novotny led BOLD with a game-high 17 points. Missy Benson added 14, Allison Agre 11 and Kory Plumley 10. Leah Miller pulled down 17 rebounds.

Megan Groen scored 11 of her game-high 18 points in the second half as the Jaguars rallied from a 26-26 halftime deadlock.

The game was tied at 26 at halftime.

Groen also finished with 10 rebounds. Chloe Huisman pulled down 16 of RCW's 53 rebounds. She also had seven points. Sally Smith notched 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Jaguars.

Katie Smith scored 11 of her team-high 15 points in the first half for the Cardinals.

Freshman wing Hannah Linz poured in 31 points, making 8-of-24 field goal attempts, to lead Eden Valley-Watkins to its third straight win.

Renae Henjum scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for New London-Spicer, despite playing with a painful thumb injury. Jenn Wendlandt added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats.

Twenty turnovers threw the New London-Spicer offense out of gear. The Wildcats got off only 37 shots compared to Eden Valley-Watkins' 61.

KMS held off a second-half Canby charge in the season and conference opener for both teams.

Canby (0-1, 0-1) got within two points with about five minutes left, but the Saints (1-0, 1-0) scored a couple of easy baskets and closed out the win with free throws.

Esther Peterson, who shot 11 of 15 from the field, finished with 25 points and six rebounds for KMS. Kim Stassen added 22 points.

Buffalo Lake-Hector held Echo Charter School to only eight points in its first-ever 18 minutes of girls basketball, then just four in the second half.

Leah Ashburn paced the Mustangs, which put up 88 shots, with 28 points and seven assists. She also had seven rebounds. Alison Benson added 13 points and seven boards.

Jessica Dhoore scored eight points for Echo Charter.

Lac qui Parle Valley converted 58 percent of its shots to crush the Wolverines. A full-court trap produced 41 steals, many leading to layups.

Mindy Clark (seven steals) poured in 23 points and Amber Moen (six steals) and Kayla Rheingans (five steals, 12 rebounds) 12 points apiece.

The Eagles also burned the net from three-point range hitting 8 of 20. Madeline Gail sank three for all nine of her points.

Mallory McNally finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.
