Girls basketball: Dragons fire up 95 points
LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield Dragons, with 80 percent (33 of 41) accuracy on two-pointers, scored what is believed a school record in a 95-71 win over Mound Westonka on Friday night in Wright County Conference girls basketball.
Bill Huhner, the Dragons head coach, said that the previous high during his tenure, which began in 1998, was 89 points early this century in a one-point, four-overtime loss to Dassel-Cokato.
He’s unaware of any Litchfield girls team scoring more than 90 until last night.
Greta Walsh scored 30 points making 15 of 16 at the free-throw line where the Dragons, as a team, went 23 of 28 (82 percent).
Four teammates joined Walsh in double figures against the White Hawks 2-3 zone: Hannah Norlin with a career-best 20 points, Bailey Koch 17, Kristen Klaven 12 and Kelsey Fisher 11. Norlin sank 10 of 13 at the line.
The Dragons broke 90 point while making only 2 of 21 three-pointers but still shooting 56 percent overall (35 of 62).
Tonka placed four in double figures led by Brooklyn Poui with 20 points. The visitors made 18 of 25 (72 percent) at the line in the Dragons’ den.
