Girls basketball: Fighting Saints take out Benson

KERKHOVEN — Kalli Forsell had 16 points and Maddi Strandberg followed with 15 Monday to help Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg keep Benson winless on the season as the Fighting Saints posted a 44-37 non-conference win.

KMS (6-13) led 21-18 at halftime, but Benson (0-20) did go ahead for a brief period in the second half. The Fighting Saints answered by getting some free throws and some key defensive stops to pull ahead and stay in front for good.

Ali Krieger pulled down a game-high 6 rebounds for KMS while Strandberg also supplied 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists. Katie Wilts added 4 steals.

Taylor Laumeyer and Krista Motzko netted 10 points each for Benson. Laumeyer and Cyra Carlson both had 5 boards while Carlson handed out 3 assists.

KMS hosts MACCRAY and Benson travels to Osakis today.
