Girls Basketball: Free throws spring Dawson-Boyd over Lac qui Parle Valley

MADISON -- Dawson-Boyd nudged ahead of Lac qui Parle Valley at the free-throw line in the game's waning seconds to claim a 55-53 victory during the Lac qui Parle Valley Invitational Monday.

Sarah Zaiser broke a 51-51 deadlock with 7.5 seconds left by making two foul shots.

The Blackjacks added two more free throws by Mariah Kuhlmann moments later for a 55-51 cushion that withstood a last-second basket by the Eagles.

Kuhlmann finished with 11 points and Zaiser 10. Kelsey Jurgenson led Dawson-Boyd in scoring with 13 points while Kendra Lindblad handed out 10 assists to go with 10 points and six steals. Whitney Hermanson provided 11 rebounds and seven points.

Jordan Halvorson spurred the Eagles, who led 27-26 at half after trialing 17-10, with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Jen Kack added 12 points and Jenna Weber 11. Kacey Struxness helped out with nine points and six rebounds.

The game was a make-up of a Nov. 29 postponement.
