Girls Basketball: Hancock's Holleman sets new area scoring record

HANCOCK -- Bree Holleman set the Hancock school and also the area's career scoring mark on Tuesday, sinking 26 points in the Owls' 72-31 Pheasant Conference rout of Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley.

Holleman needed 26 points to set the new school and area mark previously held by Courtney Brewer, who had 2,054 in 2003. Holleman broke the record with a free throw with 1:36 left in the game and now has 2,055 career points.

Holleman also led Hancock with seven rebounds and seven assists. Kendra Schmidgall had 16 points for the Owls.

With the help of 25-for-30 shooting (83 percent) from the free-throw line, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (2-4, 3-10) overcame Tess Lynn Callander's game-high 22 points for Kimball.

Lauren Anderson had 17 points to pace BBE, which also had Shyan Kuefler with 13 and Julie Hieserich 12 also score in double figures. Anderson completed a double-double by collecting 10 rebounds.
