Girls Basketball: KMS' Carlson scores 1,000th point of career

CLINTON -- Sarah Carlson scored the 1,000th point of her career and made the free-throw shot that gave Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg a 53-52 win over Clinton-Grace-ville-Beardsley in non-conference girls basketball action Thursday.

Carlson, who now has 1,009 points in her career, made a three-pointer two minutes into the second half to reach the milestone. The game was stopped and she was given the game ball. She is the sixth girl from KMS to reach the mark.

The Fighting Saints trailed most of the game, until Carlson scored a layup and made a foul shot with 40 seconds left to put KMS ahead by one. She made three more free throws, helping KMS' lead stand after CGB hit a 35-foot shot at the buzzer.

Demi Young and Britta Diem added 10 points and eight rebounds each.

The Lakers (9-1, 11-3) stuffed the Thunder Hawks (3-8, 3-12) in the first half, holding them to nine points.

Sarah Roering and Sarah Faehnrich led a balanced Minnewaska attack with 10 points each. Roering also had 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Beka Schwendemann had nine points for Montevideo, which was held to 34 percent shooting from the floor on just 32 shots.
