Girls Basketball: Larson’s free throws propel ACGC to Redwood Valley tourney championship game

REDWOOD FALLS — Sydney Larson hit two free throws with 4.8 seconds left to give ACGC a 46-45 victory over Sibley East on Thursday in a semifinals game of the Redwood Valley tournament in Redwood Falls.
After Larson hit the foul shots, Sibley East was unable to get off a final shot before the buzzer.
Larson led the Falcons with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals.
Katie Moore scored 13 points and Erica Melby had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals for ACGC, which improved to 4-5 overall.
Courtney Schwirtz had 12 points to lead Sibley East.

The Eagles gained their first win surviving a rally by Ortonville, which was 12 points behind with 10:35 left in the second haff.
The Trojans went ahead on a 3-pointer by Morgan Messmer (15 points) with 1:40 left, 41-39.
Tied 42-all, Alaysia Freetly made 1 of 2 at the line to put the LQPV up 43-42.
Brenna Giese’s 10-foot jumper at 14 seconds put Ortonville back in front 44-43 with 14 seconds showing.
The Eagles ran a set play getting the ball to Freetly. She unleashed 12-foot jump shot a split second in front of the horn. The ball fell through to catapult the Eagles to a thrilling 45-44 victory before the home crowd.
Freetly finished with 22 points.
The Eagles will play Clinton-Graceville-Bearsley at 2:30 p.m. at the high school.
