Girls basketball: Listless Cards fall at Tech
ST. CLOUD — The Willmar Cardinals limped to the end of the season losing at St. Cloud Tech on Friday night 62-25.
Three starters were out of the line-up for the finale and it showed in the lopsided loss to a Central Lakes rival.
“It’s pretty tough with three starters out,” commented coach Dustin Carlson.
Two should be back for post-season which is yet 10 days away.
Senior forward Heather Horning missed the game attending All-State Choir, a commitment made before the season, Carlson noted.
Starting guard Kalley Fosso has been ill and in an (mostly) out of the line-up for the last two weeks.
Junior guard Jordan Martins is out for the year with a broken bone above the heel sustained Jan. 26. She found out only Thursday after another X-ray she would not be able to come back for post-season.
Both guards were badly missed in Thursday’s 23-point loss to Marshall.
Willmar generated 7 field goals and only four players scored: sophomore Courtney Magnuson had 12 and junior Sami Doering 7, all in the first period.
Section 2AAA playoffs begin with the quarterfinal round on Feb. 26.
