Girls Basketball: New London-Spicer upends Melrose in 6AA-North opener

NEW LONDON -- Another win over West Central North Conference rival Melrose propelled New London-Spicer into the Section 6AA-North semifinals as the Wildcats upended the Dutchmen 60-36.

The top-seeded Wildcats (26-1) will meet No. 5 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the campus of St. John's University. The two did not meet during the regular season.

Another balanced attack fueled the Wildcats' 11th straight win as Karli Wendlandt paced a group of 10 players that scored with 15 points. NLS shot just under 50 percent (25-for-53) from the field while not allowing Melrose (1-24) to get to the free-throw line.

NLS also beat Melrose by 35 and 33 points in their two meetings during the regular season.
