HANCOCK -- It wasn't this hard for Hancock to beat Wheaton/Herman-Norcross in the regular season.

An upset-minded Wheaton/Herman-Norcross team led by nine points at halftime, but the Owls turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and rallied to post a 52-48 win in the Section 6A-South quarterfinals Thursday in girls basketball.

Hancock (18-3) had beaten the Warriors 69-35 and 52-27 earlier in the season in Pheasant Conference action.

The No. 2-seeded Owls will now meet Parkers Prairie in the sub-section semifinals Saturday at 8 p.m. at Hillcrest Lutheran Academy High School in Fergus Falls.

The game was tied 13-13 6½ minutes into the game before the Warriors (11-15) scorched the nets for 23 points to close out the half. Wheaton/Herman-Norcross then ran a stall offense in the second half, which led to Hancock employing a 1-3-1 half-court trap.

The Warriors would make only three field goals in the second half while Hancock found just enough offense to move on.

Bree Holleman had 17 points and Kendra Schmidgall 14 to pace Hancock's offense. Hannah Newhouse grabbed 10 rebounds.
