Girls Basketball: Redwood in section final

WINDOM -- A strong first half propelled Redwood Valley into the Section 3AA final as the Cardinals won their 10th straight by thrashing Minnesota Valley Lutheran 72-49 in the North sub-section championship Friday.

The Cardinals (19-8) will now play Pipestone (20-5), the South champion, in the Section 3AA final next Friday at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall at 8 p.m. Redwood Valley and Pipestone split its Southwest Conference series during the regular season.

Jessica Fischer netted 15 of her game-high 23 points in the first half behind three 3-pointers to help the Cardinals own a 40-28 lead at halftime.

Laura Houghton followed with 20 points and Kelsey Guetter added 13 more.

No other information was provided to the Tribune at press time.

(At New Ulm) -- Behind a 16-0 run in the second half, Cedar Mt./Comfrey (25-2) beat Buffalo Lake-Hector for the third time this season.

Karlee Ilgen had 17 points and eight rebounds and Emily Kubesh collected six blocks for BLH.
