Girls Basketball: Redwood Valley tops GFW to reach final in 3AA-North

GRANITE FALLS -- Redwood Valley, the No. 2 seed in Section 3AA-North, upended No. 3 Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 53-35 on Tuesday to advance to the championship.

The Cardinals (18-8) will play Minnesota Valley Lutheran at 8 p.m. Friday in Windom.

Redwood got balanced scoring in the win. Laura Houghton led the way with 13 points. Jess Fischer, Kelsey Guetter and Hannah Bitker scored 12 points apiece.

Abby Busch led all scorers with 15 points for GFW (16-11).

(At Granite Falls) -- The Eagles battled back from an eight-point gap at halftime to lead 49-44 with 4:13 left.

Spurring the rally was Whitley Strei, who scored 16 of her team-high 19 points over the first 12 minutes of the half when she canned four 3-pointers.

But Minnesota Valley Lutheran (18-8) responded with an 11-2 run to end the game. Center Amanda Burk, who scored 21 points, led the charge and Katie Barrer sank four three throws in the closing minute.

MVL led in rebounding 40-27.

LQPV finished the season 14-12.
