Girls basketball roundup: BOLD fights off Monte

REDWOOD FALLS — The BOLD girls basketball team is one win away from a Class AA state tournament berth after defeating Montevideo 56-49 on Friday in the Section 3AA North Sub-Section championship game.

The Warriors, now 25-3, face Worthington (21-5) in the 3AA title game on Friday at Southwest Minnesota State. Worthington advanced with a 52-50 win over Martin County in the 3AA South Sub-Section final on Friday.

Against Montevideo, BOLD built a nine-point halftime lead but the Thunder Hawks didn’t buckle against a solid opponent under pressure. The T-Hawks, however, couldn’t contain the Warriors’ balanced attack.

Carly Sigurdson hit four 3-pointers and finished with 19 points and Baylie Kubesh had 16 points for BOLD.

The Warriors’ Taylor Ebnet controlled the flow, offensively and defensively, with 10 points, 7 assists and 6 steals. Mal Steffel had a team-high 7 rebounds and Maggie Nagel and Andrea Maher both grabbed 6 boards.

Montevideo’s Tia Diggins scored a game-high 20 points and Ashley Hoehne finished with 10 points. Montevideo ended the season 15-11.

Dawson-Boyd 32

Minneota stifled the Dawson-Boyd offense, and the Vikings took the Section 3A-North title 52-32.

Emily Stienessen and Taylor Reiss each scored 17 points for the Vikings, and Reiss nabbed 14 rebounds.  

Minneota out-rebounded Dawson-Boyd 31-17, and the Vikings shot 44 percent from the field to the Blackjacks’ 33 percent.

Katarina Kuhlmann led the Blackjacks with 8 points, and Justine Lee had 2 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists.

Dawson-Boyd finished its season 23-4 overall.
